It's not until the end of July that you understand what that term means. My wife and I were sitting on the deck this morning drinking a cup of coffee, listening to the birds sing and hearing the leaves rustle in the trees when we realized summer was more than half over.
The summer so far has been filled with lots of activity. I took a photo class at Lost Island Nature Center, got my prairie images into the NWICP for our August show, visited our good friends in Des Moines, had a short vacation in Duluth and went to an Osprey program where they brought four young Osprey from central Minnesota to be released in Dickinson county.
Saturday, Pam and I went to a reception at A Piece Of Art in Spirit Lake. It was good to see the local artisans promoting their work. I'm really glad the artists have another outlet for their work. The turnout seemed good and everyone seemed positive.
I've been in a rut lately and not very happy with the progress I've been making. I read books on how to be a better photographer, I buy magazines on how to take a better image and I think it backfires. Instead I end up getting frustrated and lose my vision.
My friend Dan loaned me a DVD of Tony Sweets the other day and for some reason it really hit home. Maybe it was the water lessons or the fog lessons, whatever, it help drag me out of my "feeling sorry for me mood" and I went out and practiced some water images at Fort Defiance State Park.
Here's a sample of what I was able to capture. Maybe there's hope for this old dog yet!
