Spring in northwest Iowa is always so full of anticipation, especially after the long hard winter we had this year. In the Houge household this year it holds an even deeper meaning, as we found out our youngest daughter Ariana is due to have her first child in November. This will be our second grandchild and I have to say we are all quite excited.
This week, everywhere you look, there is new life. The trees are full of birds sitting on nests and I'm also happy to report that the swallows have successfully made it back and are actively darting at me while I'm riding on the mower. My wife's flower beds are doing very well (as are the weeds), the tulips have seen better days now but the lilac bushes are full and smelling great.
The leaves on most of the trees now are almost full size but they haven't lost that new bright green color yet and the pine trees are showing off their new needles- have you ever noticed how rubbery they feel when they're new-I love rubbing my hands over them each spring. Also we've been eating asparagus and rhubarb now for two weeks or so and the strawberry's plants are blooming like crazy. So I guess spring is officially here and we can breath a sigh of relief for an other year. I hope you too are noticing the signs of spring and finding time to get out and enjoy mother nature. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.
Wow!I really like these two, especially the fern and how the top falls into that nice background frame of pastel color.
